GA4 to Google Sheets, on a schedule you set by asking

Written by Uptimal, the team that builds and operates Upbuild and runs marketing analytics for multinational clients across the globe. Everything below reflects how the connector actually behaves in production.

The GA4 to Sheets problem is old and unglamorous. Someone needs sessions, conversions and channel detail in a spreadsheet every Monday, because that is where the client template lives. The options have been the official add-on, a manual export, or a script against the Data API. The add-on breaks quietly when a dimension changes, and the manual export is somebody’s Monday morning.

Upbuild Enterprise treats it as a scheduled export: the same report you would ask for in chat, written into the sheet and tab you chose, on the cadence you set.

What you choose

Why a schedule beats an add-on

Sampling and quota behaviour are the usual complaints, but the deeper one is drift: a report defined in an add-on lives in the add-on, so when it breaks nobody can see why. Here the export is a stated shape with a version behind it, and the numbers that land are the same numbers the assistant would return if you asked in chat, from the same read-only GA4 tools.

The client-facing pattern

Most teams do not want the client in a dashboard tool. They want the client’s own spreadsheet, in the client’s own format, filled in on time. A scheduled export into a shared sheet does exactly that: the template stays theirs, the tab that feeds it refreshes itself, and nobody is exporting a CSV at 8am. Pair it with live dashboards when the client does want the interactive version.

And the other direction

Reading a sheet is available to everyone, not just Enterprise: the connector’s three Sheets tools let an assistant read the budget tab or the targets your team maintains by hand, and compare it to live GA4 in the same answer. Writing on a schedule is the Enterprise half.

Frequently asked questions

Does this use the official Google Analytics add-on?

No. It runs through the same read-only GA4 tools the assistant uses, so a scheduled export returns the same numbers you would get by asking in chat.

Can it write into a client’s spreadsheet?

Into any spreadsheet your sign-in can edit, including one shared with you. Upbuild writes only into the file and tab you chose.

What about GA4 sampling and quotas?

The export uses the standard Data API reports the connector already runs, so it inherits GA4’s own behaviour rather than adding another layer of sampling on top.

Is scheduling included in the self-serve plan?

No, it is an Upbuild Enterprise feature. On the self-serve connector, Sheets and BigQuery are read-only.
